Volunteer Opportunities With Junior Achievement New Brunswick

Junior Achievement New Brunswick (JANB) is proud to engage with youth across the province by empowering them to build strong foundations for their future success. JANB’s impact is driven by its proven curriculum, which delivers essential learning in the areas of financial literacy, work readiness and entrepreneurship to students in grades 3 through 12.

A cornerstone of JANB’s success is the dedicated volunteers who deliver JA programs across the province. JA’s programs are offered in the classroom setting and all training and materials are provided by Junior Achievement. Among our most popular offerings are the Economics for Success Program and the after‑school JA Company Program, both of which provide students with hands‑on, practical learning experiences. Volunteering With Junior Achievement New Brunswick In-School

  • The JA Economics for Success is a program designed to inspire students in grades 8-10 to understand the importance of staying in school. Students take a closer look at the advantages of continued education, as well as learn what’s needed to succeed in today’s workforce. Payroll deductions and taxes are explored to help students understand how their work helps pay for public infrastructure and services. This program also focuses on the fundamentals of budgeting and the value of understanding where your money is spent and how you can make your paycheque go further.

  • Junior Achievement programs are engaging, fun and easy to teach.  Dates and teaching times are arranged through JANB and JA staff will train you and provide all the necessary classroom materials.

  • JA’s in-school sessions are a 1-hour time commitment (not including travel to & from the school) with an additional 1 hour required prior to the session to receive the program training.  2 hours in total is all it takes to make a huge difference in a young person's life!

  • Absolutely!  JA Programs come with easy-to-follow step by step guides on how to facilitate each program in addition to the training provided by JA staff.

  • Once you have received training on the Economics for Success program, there is no limit to how many sessions you can facilitate! However, all program facilitations must be arranged and scheduled by the JANB office.

  • All program facilitations are scheduled by the JANB office. To enquire about volunteering with JA and to facilitate program delivery please contact kristy@janewbrunswick.ca. Be sure to include your contact information, which region of the province you would like to deliver a program and if you have a specific school you would like to visit, please include that as well.

Volunteering With the Junior Achievement New Brunswick Company Program

  • The Junior Achievement Company Program is JA’s flagship program. This is an 18-Week after school program for high school students to learn valuable financial and entrepreneurial skills by starting and operating their very own businesses. Under the supervision of mentors and business professionals from the community, students learn about what it takes to run a successful business. From product selection to payroll, the students run the show with your guidance!

  • As a Volunteer Mentor, you will guide the students through the program and provide support as they learn the ups and downs of running a business. You will be there to encourage and mentor them through their experience!

  • As a volunteer Mentor, your minimum requirement is 3 hours on Wednesday evenings for the entirety of the 18-week program. Weekly attendance is mandatory as students rely on their mentors to be consistent to provide help with any inquiries they may have. There may be additional hours required outside of Wednesday evenings for markets or any other selling opportunities the students agree to attend.
